FBI Special Agent to Address Next Frontier in Healthcare Security at Summit

Edward You, supervisory special agent in the FBI’s Weapons of Mass Destruction Directorate, will discuss the next frontier in healthcare security at the upcoming CHIME Advocacy Summit on Oct. 3 in Washington, D.C. The summit, which is Oct. 3-5, will feature members of AEHIS, CHIME and congressional and federal policy leaders. It is open to all healthcare IT professionals and others interested in healthcare IT policy.

You will open the conference with a keynote presentation, “Safeguarding the Bioeconomy: Challenges to Health, Information Security, the Economy and National Security.”

On Oct. 4, Erik Decker, AEHIS board chair and chief security and privacy officer at University of Chicago Medicine, will present a high-level overview of the federal policy challenges facing senior healthcare IT leaders and their organizations as they try to meet demands to share information more widely while simultaneously trying to protect against increasingly frequent and sophisticated cybersecurity threats. He will talk about past and ongoing efforts by AEHIS and members of the CHIME Public Policy Steering Committee to educate policy decision makers about these issues.

Decker, will serve as the moderator of a Cybersecurity Policy Fireside Chat later that day. Joining him will be:

  • Julie Chua, Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Security Risk Management Division manager;
  • Gregory Garcia, executive director of the Healthcare and Public Health Sector Coordinating Council;
  • Jessica Wilkerson, professional staff, House Committee on Energy and Commerce; and
  • Laura Kwinn Wolf, director of the Division of Critical Infrastructure Protection at HHS.

The Fireside Chat will be followed by a press panel that will include:

  • Marianne Kolbasuk McGee from Information Security Media Group;
  • Arthur Allen from Politico;
  • Rachel Arndt from Modern Healthcare; and
  • Alex Ruoff from Bloomberg Law.

On Oct. 5, KLAS will unveil the results of 2018 report on medical device cybersecurity. The benchmarking report is a joint project between CHIME and KLAS and is based on interviews with CHIME and AEHIS provider organizations. The conference will close out that day with a panel discussion on the future of oversight of medical devices with panelists form the National Institute of Standards and Technology and the Food and Drug Administration.

AEHIS members and their colleagues are encouraged to attend. Besides cybersecurity, topics will focus on interoperability, telehealth and the opioid crisis. The summit also will include several networking opportunities and chances to interact with colleagues, congressional staffers and policy leaders from HHS, the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT, the FDA and other agencies.
