CynergisTek CEO Emeritus Mac McMillan Receives John A. Page Distinguished Fellows Service Award from HIMSS

Founding Father of Healthcare Cybersecurity Honored for a Lifetime of Exceptional Service

Austin, TXMarch 3, 2020 (HIMSS Booth #4121) — HIMSS has announced Mac McMillan, CEO emeritus and founder of CynergisTek, (NYSE AMERICAN: CTEK), a leader in cybersecurity, privacy, and compliance, as recipient of the 2020 John A. Page Distinguished Fellows Service Award. The award honors HIMSS Fellow Members for a lifetime of exceptional service, outstanding contributions to the principles for which HIMSS stands, and acting as a role model to the HIMSS community.

HIMSS recognized McMillan as a pioneer in healthcare cybersecurity. After 20 years in the military, McMillan retired from the armed forces and dedicated the next two decades of his career to improving healthcare cybersecurity with CynergisTek. Under his stewardship, the consultancy has aided over 1,000 healthcare organizations with implementing sound security measures since its founding in 2004. McMillan has shared his expertise with the HIMSS community by serving as the chair of multiple committees, including the HIMSS Privacy & Security Steering Committee and the HIMSS Privacy & Security Policy Task Force.

McMillan has also been very involved with College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME) throughout his career and served as a member of CHIME’s inaugural board of the Association for Executives in Healthcare Information Security (AEHIS) in 2015. Additional notable contributions include McMillan’s 13 consecutive years of national HIMSS conference presentations, and his vocal advocacy of security, privacy, and compliance, as he testified before the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on the cybersecurity responsibilities of the Department of Health and Human Services in 2016. He has also provided expert analysis for thousands of articles, podcasts, and books across a portfolio of national outlets and trade publications to educate the next generation of cybersecurity professionals.

“The healthcare industry has grown leaps and bounds in its cybersecurity capabilities over the past 20 years and I am confident that we can further improve the protection of patients’ data from escalating threats through continued collaboration and training,” said McMillan. “Mentorship of the next generation of security leaders is critical to healthcare’s continued success and has been a passion of mine for many years as the cybersecurity workforce shortage grows. Sharing my expertise with others is just one small way to give back to the industry, and it is an honor to be recognized by the talented and passionate health IT professionals I have had the honor to work with throughout my tenure at CynergisTek.”

McMillan will be recognized during the 2020 HIMSS Global Conference & Exhibition, held March 9-13, 2020 in Orlando, Florida at the Orange County Convention Center. HIMSS20 brings together 45,000+ health information and technology professionals, clinicians, executives, and vendors from around the world. Exceptional education, excellent speakers, cutting-edge health information and technology products, and powerful networking are hallmarks of this industry-leading conference.

“Mac has been (and continues to be) a pioneer, advocate, leader, and scientist who has helped advance the information security and privacy field in healthcare,” said Marc Probst, CIO of Intermountain Healthcare. “He is one of the founding fathers of modern cybersecurity as we know it. His prolific leadership through CynergisTek and other professional associations has guided the industry to innovate in ways that make our healthcare system more secure and better prepared to address the needs of patients everywhere.”
